World Atlas of Central Solar Eclipses - Color Edition

The World Atlas of Central Solar Eclipses covers the 1395 total, annular, and hybrid solar eclipses occurring over the 900 year period 1501 to 2400. The data is presented in 81 full-page maps within Appendices A, B and C. They show the path of every central solar eclipse (total, annular and hybrid) with respect to continental coastlines, political boundaries, and major cities. Appendix A covers North and South America, Appendix B contains maps of Europe and Africa, and Appendix C is centered on Asia and Australia. Each Appendix contains 27 maps covering 33 to 34 years of eclipses per map.Additionally, Appendix D consists of a catalog that summarizes the principal characteristics of each central solar eclipse featured on the maps of Appendices A, B, and C.Preceding the appendices are five sections of explanatory material. Section 1 presents fundamental concepts including eclipse classification and the visual appearance of each type of eclipse. Section 2 looks at the frequency of total, annular, and hybrid solar eclipses, extremes in eclipse magnitude, and the greatest central duration. Section 3 describes the maps in Appendices A, B and C.Section 4 offers a concise description of the eclipse catalog contained in Appendix D. The catalog lists the essential characteristics of each central solar eclipse in the World Atlas. These include the calendar date and time of greatest eclipse, geographic coordinates of greatest eclipse, Delta T, Saros number, gamma, eclipse magnitude, Sun's altitude and azimuth, path width and central line duration.Section 5 describes the eclipse predictions, including the solar and lunar coordinates, time and date conventions, the constants used and values for Delta T.
