The Journey to Civility & Decent Behavior with George Washington: Modern Translations and Present Day StoriesIn 1702, French priest Jean-Baptiste de La Salle—now recognized as the Patron Saint of Teachers—wrote a concise manual to guide his students in respect, self-control, and grace in daily life.A century later, a young George Washington copied these same rules into his personal notebook. Though he was practicing penmanship, he was also shaping the character that would define America’s first president.Initially titled The Rules of Christian Decorum and Civility, these simple precepts—Show respect. Be neat. Respect privacy. Be pleasant.—remain as meaningful today as they were in the 1700s.This edition revives those enduring lessons in personal conduct, reminding readers that true civility never goes out of style.Discover how small habits build great character—and why grace, discipline, and respect are virtues that transcend time.
