Kanamori Michitomo (1857–1945), also known as Paul Kanamori, was a notable Japanese Christian minister. Born into a samurai family on October 2, 1857, in Higo province (now part of Kumamoto), he embraced Christianity in 1875 and graduated from Doshisha University in 1879.As a missionary in Okayama, he was sponsored by the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. Later, in Tokyo, he led a substantial congregation and taught theology at Doshisha University. His 1891 work "The Present and Future of Christianity in Japan" showcased his literary prowess.Though he briefly renounced Christianity in the 1890s due to doctrinal differences, his return in 1914 after personal loss marked a spiritual resurgence. He embarked on nationwide and international journeys, delivering influential sermons in Japan, Taiwan, China, Korea, Hawaii, and the US. Renowned for his "Three-hour sermon," his impact was lasting.Kanamori passed away on March 4, 1945, in Kōriyama.
