Field Notes 64th Quarterly Edition: “The Birds and Trees of North America”

This limited-edition release honors the life’s work of Rex Brasher (1869–1960), an American painter and naturalist who spent decades traveling the continent to observe and illustrate every bird species in North America. His monumental achievement, The Birds and Trees of North America, completed in 1932, includes 875 hand-colored paintings depicting 1,200 species and subspecies—often surrounded by their native flora.

Field Notes has beautifully reproduced nine of Brasher’s vibrant illustrations across three unique 3-Packs of Ruled Memo Books. Each cover features one of Brasher’s bird-and-tree pairings, printed on richly textured Mohawk Via “Pure White” 100#C cover stock. The interiors are made from 60#T Domtar Lynx Opaque Ultra, ruled in soft gray for smooth, clear note-taking. Each book is bound with three stainless steel staples and printed in the U.S.A. with the care and detail Brasher’s work deserves.
