For milling most types of non-ferrous metals and non-metals, especially the free cutting, very ductile aluminum and zincs. Radial edged. Two large flutes for easy chip removal. Use when mahcine horsepower is too low for high chip capacity end mills. Carbide is expensive and only used on the cutting edges. Steel body provides superior structure to absorb shock loads compared to solid carbide. Carbide cracks are stopped in the steel body pocket rather than shattering the entire tool. A shattered solid carbide tool often damages the piece being machined.
